"I received the tube dampers, and installed on the two Electro Harmonix 6922 line stage tubes that came with the Audible Illusions M3A they are working beautifully! Initial concern regarding the close proximity of the tubes with capacitors proved unwarranted as the dampers were small enough to slip right on without any problems. The pre-amp had a very subtle distortion in the voice range, the source of which I was unable to determine. The dampers appear to have resolved this problem, and the result is a lovely enrichment in my listening experience.
"Installation was also performed on a 12AT7 in a modified FM tuner from Mapleshade, and the result is a fantastic improvement in midrange and bass providing an astounding presentation of natural tone. I am impressed with the simplicity of design. The Mapleshade brass anchors are a huge improvement, but the installation is tedious, and the 6922 Electro Harmonix tube diameters were large enough in diameter to demand significant alteration of the brass anchors.

"Anybody that is into tubes knows these transparent little globes can make some awful sounds when they start to vibrate. I've got a variety of different tube dampers laying around here but my favorite is the Halo's.
"Not only do they tame the vast majority of the vibrations in the glass but they also allow the tube to dissipate heat properly. As you look close at them, rather than being a snug fit around the circumference of the tube, these have only three (or four) contact points with the glass. This allows better airflow and heat dissipation. Result, a cooler running tube.
"The sound quality improvements are pretty obvious when you install them. The image becomes noticeably sharper, bass tightens up and you get much more detail from your tubed gear.
"These little gems are worth every penny of their already inexpensive costs."

"I am a convert to Hal-O's. I purchased two dampers, and soon thereafter purchased eight more. The effect on my system was to eliminate frequency exaggerations caused by my tubes picking up resonance frequencies. The difference was significant and immediate without impacting the coloration of the type of tube used. For example, I use a pinched waist Amperex 6922 in the line output of my pre-amp. Your tube damper significantly reduced the harmonics of this tube (which are notorious) and improved imaging without reducing the 'air' to the sound that this tube creates.
"Also to my surprise, your tube damper works significantly on a rectifier tube as well (6CA4). Resonances of my listening room were being picked up by this tube, and the result was an exaggerated bass at certain frequencies. This was immediately eliminated when I put on a damper.

"I made a mistake in my order and only ordered one HAL-O 9, but it provided me a chance to do a mini-experiment. I'd recently finished adding my Anticipation upgrade to my Foreplay preamp and, while happy, had felt that the sound was more 'bloomy' than I remembered.
"I put the HAL-O on just one of the tubes and played a few tracks. After just a few, it seemed clear that the damped channel was cleaner and a lot more focused than the other one. However, I know how easy it is to fool yourself into thinking something is 'working,' so I decided to test what I was hearing. I recorded my impressions of each channel, then played the same tracks with the HAL-O switched to the other side. The clarity and focus moved to the other channel across all the test tracks.
"So, not a double-blind A-B-X test, but I did enter the test with a certain amount of skepticism and came away very pleased with the changes the HAL-O is making.
"Anyway, I'm sending in my HAL-O order for the other tube right now, then it's off to play with the grungebuster CD mat.

"So far I've tried your tube dampers, interconnect dampers, and the smallest size Tenderfoot footers. I found that all claims in the HAL-O literature are true, and more.
"All together, the Damping Instruments bring the best out of my system. The sound just gets 'bigger'; bass seems to be of a very fine solid-state amp, highs are scarily detailed, extended and pleasantly airy. The SET ever-magical midrange is intact and untouched, only with better definition and larger size w/o having to turn up the volume. On superb recordings, a consistent impression is HUGE soundstage and vocal body, incredible DEPTH that is way farther than the back wall. It's a pleasure to note that I can now listen to and explore all tracks of a CD with tremendous joy, unlike the past fatiguing factor that limited me to selecting only certain tracks (sometimes only one or two) on supposedly very musical CDs. I hear tactile texture and tuneful detail that let me feel the bass line, rich harmonics, and tons of detail that I've never 'heard' before."

"I suppose this comes as no surprise but WOW I can't believe the difference I heard with your tube dampers in place. My system resides in another room on a wall-mounted Target shelf located well away from the speakers (Thiel 2.3). My Ah! cd player (with all the upgrades) and Amprex 7308 NOS tubes immediately sounded more harmonically together and natural and less veiled. I just got this cd player about a month ago and was so happy to find a player that didn't sound like a cd player. I lived with the stock tubes for about a week and switched to the Amprex tubes and was impressed with this tube big time and thought, well this is it. I came across a review of Ah! player with your product and thought why not give it a try. "Thank you for the lightning fast delivery of my tube dampers. The effect is quite stunning. I use Siemens E288CC in the pre-amp, which sound absolutely fine by themselves, as long as I keep the volume at a sensible level. At higher levels there seems to be a little harshness, and the image gets muddy. This is definitely a minor flaw of this type of tube, but with your dampers there is just more 'air' and 'image.' The distortion is gone, and there is a lot more bass (which is also tighter). The entire image is a bit more up front, and more 3-D."

"I've had the 'Halo' experience with a 300B SET and Grounded Grip pre-amp, but putting them on the Novals in the Hagerman Cornet and Berning microZOTL has absolutely transformed my system.
"The increased 'space' is amazing, but it's not just empty space. Instruments and voices are much more precisely located and delineated. Detail retrieval is enhanced. I've got more bass! Slam! All the 'grunge' is gone. I'm hearing important detail which never existed before. I'm not using junk tubes. Everything is NOS black plates (5751's, 12AU7's, 12AT7's) from the fifties: Amperex Holland, Mullard, GE, RCA. Obviously, they're more microphonic than people think."

"The HAL-O tube dampers arrived safely on Saturday. I decided I'd give them an acid test. One of my favorite 6922-type tubes is the Mullard E88CC-01. I love the sound of it, but it is notoriously microphonic. Basically anyone who's dealt with it says that it's a very musical tube, but that in critical preamp situations it can 'ping' whenever a switch is turned or a relay flips. I've found that to be the case.
"Imagine my surprise when the usual 'ping' was gone. Unbridled Mullard warmth, even from this tube with its inherent problems. I think my situation was particularly taxing in the Ah! Njoe Tjoeb CD player, since the tubes are very near the transport (and thus near vibration) and across from the HUGE relay. Previously, any time you'd hit 'play' or access a track, you'd get the 'ping-ringdown.' Not anymore!
"So, short story, I think they work."

"I received the hal-o dampers quickly and in fine shape. I didn't read the product reviews until after I listened for myself. What I heard was improved detail and focus with better bass definition. As I am a skeptic by nature I was surprised that the difference in sound was so immediately noticeable. But after reading the product reviews I really am amazed that others hear the same types of improvement that I do. Thanks for making a great product!"
